approaching Newton Poppleford take the B3178 towards Budleigh Salterton and go
through Colaton Raleigh. After 1mile take a left turn at the brick monument
signposted Otterton and Ladram Bay. When in Otterton follow the signs for
Ladram Bay. Camp is at the end of the lane
Dates
This year the week will start on Saturday 6th September and end on
Saturday 13TH September
Booking
This
should be done on the MAA booking forms obtainable from Caroline Scoles c/o
Grimsby Model Centre, 22 Lord Street, Grimsby, DN31 2LU, Tel 07771 751959 or
01472 322874
Completed
forms should be returned to Caroline at the above address.
Non
Refundable deposit payments of £75.00 should be made payable to Model Aviators
Association.
Please note that the prices quoted on the booking form include discounts, and these are the only ones available. The camp does not normally give discounts to groups but we have managed to secure a small one for our members as we have block booked the units.
Please
read the booking conditions on the reverse of the form carefully before sending
it in.
Anyone
who wishes to extend his or her holiday should liase direct with Ladram Bay in
respect of the extra week ONLY. They will be able to allocate a unit number to
you, which you should quote on the MAA booking form when you return it in order
that continuity of unit may be made. Payment for any extra stay should be made
to Ladram Bay but the payment for the MAA week should be made to the MAA (as we
have already paid the camp).
Please
note that there are only limited numbers of each grade of unit booked and these
will be allocated on first paid basis.
Tourers should also book on the MAA forms as again we have block reserved a small number of pitches with electric hook up. Pitches will be allocated on the Saturday afternoon after 2pm in the same way as the static's.
The
camp has passed responsibility for the issue of keys to us as the holiday
organisers. They will not be available under any circumstance before 2pm on the
Saturday. You should present your booking
confirmation that will be issued to you approx. 4 weeks before arrival date to
either Max Bradley or Caroline Scoles to receive your keys. If you intend to
arrive after 6pm please ring 07771 751959 and let Max or Caroline know.
There will be a briefing at 0930hrs on the Sunday by the organisers at their caravan.
Frequencies
To maximize the use of the frequencies would pilots please bring all their crystals with them?
At the time of writing as far as we are aware we still have the use of the East Devon clubs site at Woodbury Common approx 8 miles from the camp and the host club provide the pegboard and transmitter pound. Maps will be available at the briefing
The
power site is under the control of our hosts the East Devon R/C Club and we will
be using their frequency control. Our pilots must strictly comply with site
rules, which have been imposed on them by their landlords. There will be a fee
of £10 per pilot to use the power site. This also applies to helicopter pilots.
The site is available for use from 1000 until dusk but our instructors will only
be in attendance until 1700.
The site for the day will be dependent on weather conditions and the location will be posted each morning in the organiser’s caravan by 0930hrs. We use a range of sites dependant on wind direction the nearest being 2 miles from the camp and the furthest about 35 miles.
Please
note that the gliders operate a peg ON system so you need your own peg with your
name and frequency on it.
The
gliding will be under the control of our gliding CFI, Dave Scoles assisted by
Michael Terry.
These
will share the power site and will be under the control of Derek Stowe.
On arrival all helicopter pilots will be issued with a declaration that
they must sign and will be returned to the East Devon club. Again this is a
requirement of the landlords
Electric
Aircraft
These can be flown at either the power or gliding sites but we ask that ‘noisy’ models e.g. Twinjets etc are only flown at the power site
Training
The sites will be manned from 1000 until 1700. If you require help please make yourself known to the relevant CFI at the Sunday briefing
As
we do not exclusive use of a room we will make a decision during the week
regarding repairs and where they will be done.
Onsite
operation of models
The camp is small and quiet. Please respect this by not running any nitro motors, including radio-controlled cars/buggies around the camp. Electric aircraft may be flown on the football field with the appropriate care and regard to safety and electric cars/buggies/motorbikes etc can be run on the pathways again with regard to safety and consideration of other guests.
Programme
A
programme detailing all the events will be available from the Sunday morning.
Circumstances beyond our control may necessitate changes but these will be kept
to the minimum.
Facilities
The
camp is a small family run park and has bar and swimming facilities as well as a
private beach. There is a small disco area at the bottom of the bar. Upstairs is
a superb restaurant doing excellent meals and a group meal (carver) will be held
on the Thursday evening Shops, amusement arcade, launderette, doctor’s
surgery, games room, 10-pin bowling, crazy golf, pool, and cafeteria are
available on site and there is evening entertainment as well. It is a short
drive/walk into the village where there is a country pub, shops etc. We will
have the use of the restaurant at 9pm each evening for our activities or if the
weather is particularly pleasant we can use the restaurant balcony earlier.
Modelling
needs
Should
you be unfortunate enough to crash and need to make repairs, or forget something
or not wish to lug gallons of fuel around there is an on site facility of a
fully stocked model shop.
It
must be remembered that the holidays are not to be used as a vehicle for
obtaining A and B certificates. Our instructors, some of which are BMFA
examiners, value their qualifications and abuse of the conditions relating to
the issue of A and B awards could cause the BMFA to withdraw the qualification
from the examiner. Please do not therefore put either the MAA or the individual
examiner in an embarrassing position. There are very strict rules imposed by the
BMFA in relation to taking the tests outside of your own club. If you are not
sure what these rules are please speak to Dave Scoles, our gliding CFI who is a
BMFA Chief Examiner. His decision on whether there is an eligibility to take the
test will be final .In any case you will need to bring with you a letter signed
by your club secretary confirming that the club has no objection to us carrying
out the test and that the club has no examiner of their own.
Insurance
Please
make sure that you bring proof of insurance with you, as it will be checked by
the CFI’s prior to flying. Any appropriate model flying insurance
(MAA, BMFA, LMA etc) is acceptable to us.
Please
also have proof of membership with you. If you are not a member or have
forgotten to renew you will be able to (re) join at the time.
